USCG Fun Stuff

We can't be too serious all the time.  This page where I'll share some of my best stories and observations.  In most cases I will absolutely be changing (or simply not using) the names to protect the guilty!

A fellow CO and friend of mine one time somewhat jokingly came up with a "Top 10" list of do's and (mostly) don't for a long and happy Coast Guard career.  It may seem funny but the more I look at it the more I realize that it's actually some pretty good advice.  Check it out.  I've actually expanded it quite a bit to now include 50 Rules for Success.

I've uploaded some fun pictures of myself over the years.  If you can't laugh at yourself, you've got a problem.  If I have to explain the problem; you're really got a problem.

When Admiral Paul Yost became the 18th Commandant of the Coast Guard in 1986, he made some pretty big waves pretty quickly.  In particular, his decision to ban beards caused many members at the time great umbrage. I recently found an old Commandant's Bulletin that I saved because the Ironwood was in it.  I found reading the interview with ADM Yost interesting.  Check the whole thing out HERE.

Back in the late 90's, the Coast Guard briefly was a sponsor of the WWE.  Needless to say it caused some concerns among some Coast Guard members.  Check out my thoughts as well as the Commandant's by clicking HERE.
